How To Get Stuff Online in Kenya

Basics

One question a lot of people ask me is how to get stuff online in Kenya be it anime, manga, comics, books or tv shows. On this page I'll let you know how I do it.
First of all you need a high-speed internet connection, I recommend either a 1Mbps or 4Mbps link from Zuku. They are the cheapest and most reliable ISP in Kenya.
Next make sure you have enough space on your laptop or PC especially if like me you want to keep what you like, not just watch and delete. If you don't have enough hard drive space look into buying an external hard drive I recently bought a 1TB external from Starcom for Kshs. 8000.
Download VLC media player to watch videos
Download CDisplay to read manga and comics
Download Calibre to read ebooks.

Anime and TV shows

There are basically two methods namely torrent downloads and http downloads each with their own pros and cons

Torrent Downloads

1. Download a torrent client like utorrent

2. Visit a torrent site kickasstorrents and find the show you're looking for.

My experience has been that downloading from torrents depends greatly on your speed. People with high bandwidth find it easier to download through torrents while I would recommend http downloads for those with lower speeds.

Http Downloads

1. Download and install Chrome browser

2. Download and install Download Accelerator Plus

3. Start DAP 

4. Install a Chrome extension like FVD downloader that copies urls.
5.Visit a site streaming tv shows or anime online. For example Couch Tuner or Anime Plus

6. When a video streams on Chrome the url to download it should appear on FVD. Click on the copy icon next to the url. This does not work on some sites like Youtube.
7. Open DAP, click on Add and paste the url into the field that appeas, save the file where you like and wait for it to finish downloading.

Youtube Downloads

1. Find and install a Youtube download progam like YTD downloader.

2. Right-click on the Youtube video while it is playing on your browser. Click on Get video url.

3. Open YTD, the url should automatically appear, if not click Paste url.

4. Select download quality, where to save to, then click Download.

5. If YTD does not work for you then find another program, there are quite a few.

6. BE CAREFUL WHEN INSTALLING NOT TO INSTALL ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE.

In general video quality is higher with torrent downloads because the file size is higher but it is up to you to decide what you find accessible and acceptable.

Manga

1. Download DomDomSoft Manga Downloader

Books and Comics

Books can be downloaded through IRC this tutorial here explains it pretty well. IRC is a large and versatile community as long as you know where to find it you can download almost anything. For books I would recommend using the IRCHighway server and #ebooks channel.

Comics can also be downloaded through IRC and torrents as previously explained. 

There are various methods to get comics and books through http downloads. I would recommend creating an account on Warez-BB and browsing the site.
